What is DOVE?
DOVE (Disaster Operations Volunteer Escapees) is a certified Birds of a Feather (BOF), or subgroup, of the Escapees RV Club and is a partner of the American Red Cross in providing disaster services.
Members of DOVE are fully trained and qualified Red Cross Disaster Workforce Volunteers and they participate in disaster services in some capacity, such as performing administrative tasks at a local chapter, serving on their Disaster Action Team (DAT), teaching disaster classes, or going on deployment to disasters, local or national.
Following September 11, 2001, the group was formed to provide qualified, trained volunteers to assist with all disasters (big and small) that the American Red Cross responds to, 24-hours a day, 365 days a year. In October 2003, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed by both organizations and a unique partnership was formed to enable DOVEs to respond to disasters in their RVs.
As its mission, the American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. In support of the American Red Cross, the mission of DOVE is to:
1) Recruit Escapees RV Club members for Red Cross Disaster Services
2) Assist DOVE members in obtaining training as Red Cross disaster operations volunteers
3) Provide DOVE members with timely information about Red Cross disaster relief operations
4) Provide volunteer assistance to the Red Cross whenever and wherever practical.
DOVE invites all RVers who want to become Red Cross disaster volunteers to join us.
DOVEs are:
Members of Escapees RV Club.
